Weekend Update: Shopping Edition

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Mine was pretty low-key. I spent some QT shopping with my mom, my favorite pastime. We headed to Westport, which I believe has one of the best downtowns in Connecticut. It was a full day, so be prepared to scroll down. First stop, Vineyard Vines!

I have been eying this dress and was excited to see it in person.

Vineyard Vines
Ocean Blvd Strapless Dress in Vineyard Navy $165

Sadly I was between sizes, neither quite fit right. I will be anxiously awaiting the summer dress arrivals.

Westport is also home to other top shops. We popped in Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store Splash of Pink to see the new white dresses. The lace Reeve Dress was by far my #1 pick. No doubt this will be a popular graduation dress.

Lilly Pulitzer
Reeve Dress in Classic White Papillon Lace $368

While at J.McLaughlin, not only did I see many things I desire but also learned that author Lisa Birnbach will be at the store for an upcoming True Prep book signing.

Thursday, March 10th from 5-8 PM
J.McLaughlin
1026 Post Rd East, Westport, CT
RSVP to Alison Mazzola Communications
at events@mazzpr.com or 212.755.2100

I went to a signing in New Canaan back in December, featured on my first everrrrr post. If you are in the area and haven't heard her speak you must go.... she is hilarious and truly brings the book to life with her anecdotes.

I snapped this photo of the store interior (is that allowed?) - wouldn't you love to sit here and have a drink?!

Back to shopping.

Anthropologie
Elephant Medallion Pot $78

Too bad I don't really need this from Anthropologie. Whatever I put it in would probably die. However, I did find a sundress I will debut at a later date.

Among other places we also stopped at the mall. Of course I didn't come out of there empty handed...

Forever 21
Striped Tank Dress in Navy/Ivory $17.80
Printed Skirt w/ Belt in Cream/Black & Hot Pink/White $14.80

My purchases included these pieces from Forever 21. Yes, the store that is taking over malls across America. Unfortunately with their expansion and multi-level stores I don't find as many things as I used to, or maybe anything decent is harder to find among the mass? Floral printed jeans? No thanks. I also notice I am shopping alongside middle schoolers... so perhaps I am just growing up. Thoughts?

I envision wearing these skirts with a tank and wedges "down the shore" (Jersey!) this summer when I visit friends. I will likely be switching up the belt on the pink skirt to something besides black or removing the loops completely.

Phew, and those were just the highlights!

Oscars

I have to get my quick word in on the awards tonight with my 3 standout picks. My favorite red carpet style was Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott and Cartier jewels. I thought her auburn hair looked great against the midnight blue and that necklace POPS! However, I can understand that this look will not appeal to everyone. Halle Berry's skin and makeup looked stunning during her presenation and mother-to-be Natalie Portman looked gorgeous.

I really hope Bravo was filming Rachel Zoe, Anne Hathaway's stylist, preparing for the big night. I can only imagine how entertaining those episodes of Rachel Zoe Project would be. She stresses out finding one dress for the actress... and I lost count how many she wore tonight. A bit of an overkill?

Cheese Please!

My favorite comfort food is hands down mac 'n' cheese. Ted and I went to S'Mac in the East Village Thursday night. We had the 4 Cheese (cheddar, muenster, gruyere and a touch of pecorino) and Buffalo Chicken (cheddar & american cheeses with boneless chicken pieces and buffalo wing sauce) topped with blue cheese. I'm still full.

Likes: Hello, cheese! Just enough gooeyness. The Buffalo Chicken was really spicy, I was in heaven.
Dislikes: The eatery is really small and I had to "stalk" a table, which stresses me out. They were cleaning the metal forks and I had to settle for plastic. Is it wrong that made me mad?!

If only I could cook...

Look at these Glee sugar cookies! I do not watch regularly... still need to see the first episode with Gwenny. She's back on 3/8 singing 'Kiss' by Prince.

Shop
"Not just for special occasions because Silk Road Pearls are not your grandmother's strand." A fellow Lehigh alum founded this company and I am loving what she has to offer. I ordered the twist short necklace in pink and gray ($35) and medium stud earrings in light grey ($15).

Sara, the founder, was back on Lehigh's campus last week and stopped by my ol' sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, for a special Silk Road Pearls showing. I'm sure the girls were very happy, I always loved when I could walk downstairs and shop! A portion of the profits were donated to the AOII Foundation, which supports a variety of philanthropic efforts. A savvy business woman and do-gooder!

Giveaways (fingers crossed!)
I won A Healthier You Giveaway from Elizabeth at Have Your Cake and Eat it Too that included The Truth About Beauty by Kat James and Nordic Naturals Omega supplements. This book sounds so informative and I've been meaning to amp up my daily vitamins so I am a happy girl. Stay tuned for my review and be sure to check out her blog and latest giveaway for a super cute ring.

Nautical by Nature

A big thank you to Kate at Nautical by Nature for featuring a picture I submitted today on her fabulous blog! I love her site and as you can see have been a long time fan of nautical inspired fashion.

Kate mentioned that Teddy went to Massachusetts Maritime Academy. I went to Lehigh and met him after our college days. I never saw him in his uniform until this past Halloween, when somehow I convinced him to break one out!

Pink and Green (Cocktails) Thursday

Exactly one year ago Ted and I were cruising in the Bahamas... sipping on scotch and martinis. Ahh... the life! Unfortunatley timing did not allow for a spring break trip this year. Note to self, squeeze in a WARM vacation next winter.

Striking a pose in the Viking Crown Lounge, the highest area on board for guests. I remember looking out and seeing nothing but ocean.

Today's Pink & Green Thursday is dedicated to a selection of favorite June-September cocktails.

Every summer when I'm on Martha's Vineyard I look forward to martinis at David Ryan's Restaurant. The atmosphere is laid back and the owners are really friendly. It's garanteed I'll either start or end one of my big nights there with a pink or green drink in hand. One of my favorite martinis on the menu is Sex on the Vineyard - Stoli Orange, Midori and pineapple juice.

The truth is at most of the crowded bars I frequent a martini would be spilled over by someone bumping into me before I could take the first sip. In this case, vodka, soda with a splash of cran is always a safe bet (and somewhat low-calorie). With my friend Kate at The Wharf on the Vineyard. She lives in Boston and I don't see her enough! Much easier for us to meet up in the summertime.

Pictured here are Local Hookers, THE DRINKS!! You all, hooker=fisherman, I know what you were thinking. Kate and I just had to try while at Brax Landing on the Cape. Unfortunately a Google search is not pulling in the appropriate content I am looking for regarding this cocktail. I just remember it had Jack Daniels in the mix. The restaurant must sell shirts sporting the drink name as I spotted one at New England Country Fest in the stands last year.

Last but not least, I would like to note that I am not always boozing although it may appear otherwise. Shirley Temple, with extra cherries please!

What's your favorite bevvy? Please remember to pink and green responsibly! (So cheesy... but had to say it.) Thanks to Trish at Pink Preppy Lilly Lover for hosting. For more of the perfect color combo click above to see her stellar selection of photos and visit the blogs below. Cheers!

Royal Wedding Watch

via EW.com
Save the Date - April 19, 2011

Any other royal wedding watchers out there? Lifetime has set the date for it's upcoming movie William & Kate starring Nico Evers-Swindell (NCIS: Los Angeles, Law & Order) as Prince William and Camilla Luddington (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Defenders) as Kate Middleton. Ahem, don't they mean Catherine Middleton? The only time I recall seeing Catherine used was in Vogue, doesn't look like it's catching on Ms. Wintour...

First look via PopSugar UK
Following the movie, Lifetime will air the first of six one-hour episodes of the documentary series Royal Wedding of a Lifetime. That I especially look forward to. And there is more... Hallmark Channel is going to follow suit with their own movie as well in August. Lots to keep up with! Think these movies will be any good?!

P.S. How Does Fruitcake Fit in at the Royal Wedding?

First order of business... I was lucky to guest blog for Jess at Polka Dots, Pearls, and Pink...OH MY! today. If you traveled on over from there, you'll have to forgive me for not properly introducing myself (thankfully Jess jazzed it up for me) as I am a newbie to the blogosphere. My name is Lindsay, I live in Connecticut, work and play in Manhattan, love Martha's Vineyard (hence the origin of Vineyard Loveknots) and have lots common with JMB. She quickly became a blogging BFF, and "ya'll" know why. Thanks for stopping over!

Last weekend I traveled to Lake Placid, New York for a weekend of winter fun with some of my best college friends. Teddy and I arrived late Friday night and I was so excited to see the village lit up with Christmas lights. I wanted to play my holiday tunes on the last stretch of the drive, but figured he had enough of my DJ'ing for the evening. Some of the highlights...

Skiing at Whiteface

We were missing one for the group photo... when we found him he had a broken binding... eek! I was pushed to try harder trails... and thankfully I made it down alive.

Dinner at Lisa G's

The ladies of the trip plus my friend Matt's lab Whistler pre-dinner. We dined at Lisa G's, an American restaurant a little off the main strip of the village. I loved the local feel and the quirky menu. "Daily Burger: Always, everyday, there’s something different. Ask your server and then they’ll go ask the kitchen or yell to the bar and then come back and tell you what it is." Best of all, we had an awesome server who not only put up with our rowdy group but made amazing menu suggestions.

Two of us opted for dirty "spicy" martinis with jalapeƱo stuffed olives - deeeeeelicious! I can thank these girls for getting me hooked on dirty martinis. I hated olives growing up, but felt so left out when they were all "classy" with their signature cocktail. Taste acquired!

S'mores at Lake Placid Pub and Brewery

The server kindly asked us to stop setting the sticks on fire after we devoured our dessert.

Found our alma mater, Lehigh University, up on the wall!

Tobogganing on Mirror Lake

We were definitely the big kids there. A view from the top - not for anyone afraid of heights. Sadly we saw some youngsters cry. We went straight from skiing, to the brewery, to tobogganing, back to the brewery.

Simply Gourmet - 46 Sandwiches

I wasn't leaving until I had a sandwich from Simply Gourmet, no matter how long it would take. (I think it was about 25 minutes.) Known for their "46 Sandwiches named after the 46 highest peaks in the Adirondacks" and homemade breads. Overpriced deli sandwiches are a weakness of mine.

Can't thank my friend Matt enough for planning this trip for us. We always have such a great time at his place!   I am blessed to have fabulous friends to share these experiences with.
