Taste of Maine in Manhattan

At mealtime in Manhattan you can find just about anything you are looking for, including fresh Maine lobster. Teddy and I went to Luke's Lobster in the East Village on Sunday for lunch - I have to give him the credit for this idea.

We both had the Schooner Combo that included a 4 oz. lobster roll, Miss Vickie's chips, a pickle and organic Maine Root soda. The toasted and buttered New England-style hot dog bun was filled with only claw and knuckle meat, said to be the tastiest parts of a Maine lobster. There wasn't much mayo, which I found unusual but liked nonetheless, and was topped with a light seasoning.

There are 3 Luke's Lobster locations in the city. The East Village spot is the original and smallest with only 8 stools. Honestly while I was there I forgot I was even in Manhattan and that it was 40 degrees outside. Luke's was featured on Food Network's Food Feud. I don't watch these shows but always think it's fun to hear about, they wouldn't be featured without reason. I'm going to have to check out the competition now.

Lobster automatically makes me think SUMMER. Ted's brother sets lobster traps in Martha's Vineyard Sound. That's me with a fresh catch on a past summer trip. So, lobster anyone?

Lindsay's Shower

A few weekends ago I went to a beautiful shower for my friend Lindsay at the Grain House in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Here we are with the bride, holding her rehearsal bouquet of ribbons from the shower gifts.

We all cheered together back at Lehigh. Lin was also my sorority big sis. Fun fact - we both held the position of New Member Educator during our Greek days. So many great memories with Lin!

One of my favorite details of the shower was this special little bottle we each brought home. Lindsay is a fragrance chemist in Manhattan and has formulated top designer scents found at your favorite stores along Fifth Avenue. You can imagine how excited we were to find a perfume personalized for the shower at each place setting.  (I especially luck out since I share my name with the bride!)

Lindsay and her fiancée Teddy will be married this May in New Orleans. (If you didn't know, my boyfriend's name is Teddy. Ha!) We are all counting down to the big day.

Dancing to Houston!

I spent a good portion of my weekend on the couch watching hoops...I am so excited that UConn is in the Final Four! Bring it Kentucky. My friend Matt was sporting UConn cuff links the other week - with a pink and blue shirt no less. "I'll post this picture when we head to the Final Four." CSN Stores has a great collection of NCAA cuff links that would make a great gifts. Matt got his as a graduation present.

How's your bracket doing? Mine was toast a long time ago... at least I have one team left.

Abbrevs R Fab

Abbreviations OMG (oh my God), LOL (laugh out loud), FYI (for your information), BFF (best friends forever), TMI (too much information), IMHO (in my humble opinion) and WAG (wives and girlfriends) have been added to the revised online edition of the Oxford English Dictionary last week.

Interestingly, muffin top, "which describes the protuberance of fat above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers," did as well. Read more here.

FYI, WTF (pardon my French) did not make the cut.

Whiskey Girl

I already covered martinis this week and don't like to mix too many liquors...

But I just love the label on the new Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey!

Bar trays in Andy and Kate Spade's chic Manhattan apartment. Tennessee Honey would make a great addition... visually at least.

Kate Spade Crescent Drive Tea Cup & Saucer $56

It just so happens that Kate Spade has the perfect tea cup for whoever "she" is!

Have a great weekend all.

Pink and Green Thursday

The week is flying by! The star of today's Pink and Green Thursday is the preppy alligator. We'll start with the original...but there is a twist.

Have you heard about the collaboration between Lacoste and Catherine Malandrino? The line will be coming out mid-April, you can view pieces from the collection here. The 80-year-old logo features a kissing pair, a bold change. "We might change the color, and we have used an enlarged one, but it was a big deal to turn the crocodile around." - CEO Steve Birkhold told WWD.

I think I'll stick with the classic polo. Now onto some other preppy gators... from the home to your feet!

Boatman Gellar Alligator Repeat Plate $25

Juliska Mariposa Alligator Notepaper Holder $48

Vineyard Vines Gator Printed Tie $75

Tidewater Sandals Pink/Green Gators $20

There are unlimited amounts of cute pink and green alligator apparel and accessories for children. This one made me laugh!

Alligator Hair Clip $6.95

Be sure to visit Trish at Pink Preppy Lilly Lover for her always fabulous P&G selection! :)

Mar-tee-ni Time

Continuing where I left off yesterday... After visiting the Lehigh campus and enjoying a HUGE lunch, my friends and I did some shopping and then crashed on the couch for a few hours. It took awhile to build up our hunger again, but by 8 we were ready to go. We headed to our favorite martini bar in Bethlehem.

We made reservation at Loopers Grille and Bar, a golf  clubhouse inspired restaurant and bar that boasts a very extensive "mar-tee-ni" list of 400+.

Sara and I both had the "Pomage" martini and Corinne the "Lycherium Delerium." We started off with the loaded cheese fries. I'm not big on french fries, but add some cheese and I'm in.

Sara had the most interesting looking entrée - "The NCC" - balsamic glaze drizzled over mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted peppers and onions.

After dinner we moved from the dining area to the bar to watch some March Madness. Perfect timing, my Huskies were on and we cheered them to victory against Cincinnati. Sara stuck to the pomegranate martini, while Corinne and I ventured and tried a few others including the "Chocolatini." The rumor is you're cut off after 3, but we called a cab before finding out. Do you have a favorite flavored martini?

Lehigh Love

If you haven't picked it up already... I have lots of Lehigh pride! (After all, I was a cheerleader.) Here I am with Sara and Corinne in front of the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture outside one the libraries while we were back on campus Saturday.

Lehigh University is located on a beautiful mountainside in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for those unfamiliar with the school. During my tour in high school I fell in love with the Gothic stone buildings and wasn't deterred by all of the hillside stairways. Walking back from class was a workout everyday.

Our first stop in Bethlehem was the Goosey Gander II, better known as "The Goose," home of my favorite deli sandwiches. It's one of the most popular eateries around Lehigh and there is just about always a line out the door at peak lunch hours. I first learned of it freshman year when my economics professor used their popular "Guna Melt" (tuna melt) in a supply and demand example. I was so intrigued I immediately learned where it was and the rest is history.

It's been 4 years since Sara and I have been regular customers and the owner Tony STILL knows our favorite orders when we return to campus! "#1 Deli" - Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese and Cole Slaw on Rye - toasted with Russian dressing.

With that amazing sandwich I always have a 32 oz. fountain soda. I lived on diet soda in college - since I've weened myself off. There are definitely a few meals that wouldn't be complete without a bubbly soda, so exceptions are made.

After lunch we headed to the campus bookstore. The selection is small and not much has changed, but this Polo section has been added in recent years.

Sara and Corinne opted for this cute white hat. I'm regretting not getting one myself!

I couldn't resist this picture. I've always wished they had a Vineyard Vines Lehigh tote. The guys luck out on this one. So jealous of all of you that attend large universities with unlimited amounts of gear available. It's just not fair!
