I visited Charleston a couple weeks ago with my mom. We absolutely loved it. I'm ready to pack up and move there!
We stayed at
The Vendue (
TripAdvisor Reviews). The location was great and I was happy to be close to Waterfront Park. We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary wine and cheese hour after we unpacked and arrived late afternoon. The hotel also has a rooftop bar, where I met up with friends that live in the area. The city was bustling with lots of visitors for the College of Charleston's graduation weekend. Good thing I planned all of my dining reservations in advance because it was packed everywhere!
Waterfront Park
I got into a routine of getting iced coffee in the morning and strolling through the park. I miss this scene!
Our first dinner was at
Magnolias. We had the pan seared lump crab cakes, shellfish over grits, grilled beef with pimento cheese and topped it off with peach sorbet. And so began my love for pimento cheese...
We spent our first full day at the
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. We spotted some gators on the nature tram, toured the house and walked through the gardens.
After the plantation tour we returned downtown for our dinner reservation at
Cru Café. I had the poblano and mozzarella fried chicken along with four cheese macaroni and my mom had the swordfish. This tops my favorite restaurants - great service, atmosphere and most importantly food. When I return to Charleston I will definitely be back.
Meeting Street
The next day was dedicated to walking around downtown and shopping on King Street. Good thing I had a little extra room in my suitcase.
Everywhere I went I heard people talking about
Husk. The lunchtime burger lives up to the rave reviews. We split that along with their pimento cheese and a salad. It was all amazing. I can't stop thinking about that buttery pimento bread with pickles.
The last night we dined at
Fleet Landing, a casual seafood restaurant on the water. Before we headed back to the airport the next day we walked through the
City Market and had a goodbye Charleston cocktail at
Market Pavilion Hotel's rooftop bar.
So many great memories with my mom!
