Loveknot Edit: Janie and Jack Sale

Some of my favorites from the Janie and Jack sale that I shared on Instagram.... I bought most of this for Lexi and Chase. I had a hard time controlling myself! I'm a sucker for the accessories. For the newbies, I am loving this cabana print - comes in both pink and blue.

Summer Soirée

Dress: BCBGMAXAZRIA (available here, here and here). Heels: Christian Louboutin
On Ted... Jacket: Lauren Ralph Lauren

Last weekend Ted and I attended a charity event for OPUS for Person to Person with our friends in town. This floral navy dress from BCBG is perfect for summer weddings and events.

I was loving the pink theme and this marquee sign.. realizing I'm very behind on the latest trends for events. This would be so cute with a couple's initials for an engagement party or GIRL or BOY for a baby shower.

Talking makeup... Wearing Dior Addict Liptick in Riviera  - a shade found via Julia Engel a couple years ago. It's a perfect red-coral-orange shade for summer. Essie "Happy Wife Happy Life" is on my nails to coordinate (sadly a discontinued color). All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation by Nars is one of my favorite bases - it has amazing coverage! I wear the shade Sante Fe in the summer months.

Cheers!

Pure Bioderm

Let's talk products! One of the topics I've covered on Vineyard Loveknots since the start, over 8 years ago, is clean beauty. I have been using Pure Bioderm Antioxidant Super Serum and B5 Hydrating Serum since December... I'm hooked on both and am happy to share that they are CLEAN! They were developed by dermatologists Dr. Deanne Mraz Robinson and Dr. Rhonda Klein of Modern Dermatology of Connecticut in Westport. I've been a patient of Dr. Robinson for a few years - read more here.

B5 Hydrating Serum $30
Antioxidant Super Serum $59
Use code PUREMD15 for 15% through May 31 on Amazon (one time use)

My daily routine, both morning and evening always includes a cleanser, both serums, and moisturizer. A few bases to cover... they are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, vegan, cruelty free and made in the USA. There are no synthetic fragrances, dyes, parabens, sulfates, silicone, phthalates, formaldehyde, or GMO ingredients.

Most importantly, they contain the key ingredients that you have probably heard buzz about. The B5 Hydrating Serum contains hyaluronic acid, a must for your anti-aging routine. It's made my skin feel plump and smooth. One of my best friends that happens to be a chemist in the beauty industry described hyaluronic acid as a huge caterpillar - each leg attracts a molecule of water and the chain drags all that water into your skin. The Antioxidant Super Serum is packed with a blend of ingredients including Vitamin C that will reduce appearance of fine lines and pigmentation. Both are safe during pregnancy and nursing.

Coupled with laser treatments I've been receiving I have noticed reduced redness and brighter looking skin. I have to note that when compared with other products containing similar key ingredients you'll appreciate the price point.

I've even given the B5 Serum as a gift to my girlfriends since it's great for all skin types - Amazon Prime Delivery to the rescue!

Splurge vs. Steal: Trench Coat

Loving this new stone colored trench coat at Zara as a steal for the classic Burberry version. I have been on the hunt for this particular shade for some time after seeing it on Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam years ago. It's perfect for spring and April showers with the removable hood. I wish it was just a little longer but I'll take it regardless. (I actually had a slightly different trench from Zara for a few years but lost the belt so happy to finally have a replacement.)

Lexi's Style File: Unicorns and Rainbows

cuddle + kind Zoe the unicorn $72, $52 Such a great cause!

Have you heard... It's National Unicorn Day! If you have little girls in your life, every day probably feels like rainbows and unicorns. I'm not complaining, I've had so much fun shopping for Lexi lately.

Pottery Barn Kids Basket & Liner (Large)

I filled Lexi's birthday basket with purple and rainbow goodies from Coco and Lala Watchill, Wiggles & Giggles and Kirby Girl in Darien. She's been wearing the tutu and carrying her flashlight every night since her birthday, haha. Her new Easter basket just arrived so I figured why not re-purpose it while I can. (If you are thinking about ordering one, let me warn you the large size is enormous!)

If you are still shopping for your little one's Easter basket, consider a hand-knit doll that helps a great cause. For every cuddle + kind doll purchased, 10 meals are donated to children in need. I love their mission and was happy to be able to purchase one locally at Coco and Lala Watchill to help them raise 500 meals!

Shirt: Gap Kids.

I buy most of Lexi's clothes at Gap...they have so many cute rainbow and unicorn options right now!

Bed: Crate & Kids. Sheets: Target. Pajamas: Roller Rabbit.

We've been reading Uni the Unicorn every night at bedtime. Hard to see, but Lexi is clutching her unicorn night light (named Uni, of course). If you're local head to the gift shop at Palmer's to pick one up.

I love the new Gwen the Unicorn print from Roller Rabbit. I would love to have a matching set for us.

Purple Funfetti for the birthday girl... in line with the unicorn theme.

I could go on and on... love this trend and hope it's here to stay!

Lexi's 3rd Birthday

Lexi's Dress: Gap. My Dress: Misa Los Angeles (also available here).

We kicked off Miss Lexi's 3rd birthday week on Sunday with a small party at home with family and a few friends. Doesn't matter the size of the party... I'll always overdo it with a big cake! Bring on the buttercream frosting. As requested by the birthday girl, we had a purple Minnie Mouse rainbow cake customized from Palmer's Bakery in Darien. This party was followed by a Funfetti cupcake celebration with her class the next day and another round at home on her actual birthday, April 2nd. She's still on a sugar high...

She's growing up too fast!

Lexi, we couldn't love you more! You bring me so much joy each and every day.

Mom Stole My Look

Madewell 9" High-Rise Skinny Jeans $135
(Old Navy similar style jeans for a portion of the price - I have and love these!)
Joie Macrina Sweatshirt $128 (also available here, here, here)

This Joie sweatshirt reminds me of something I would dress Chase up in! I'm always coordinating with at least one of kids, ha.

I've been using this MZ Wallace bag as my everyday work tote in the winter for 4 years... it's held up really well and such a great bag for this time of year in New England. You don't have to worry about it getting ruined in the rain or snow. On the weekend I swap out my laptop for Chase's diaper clutch. It's made frequent appearances on this blog...a year after year favorite. Splurge vs. Steal Alert - Oliver Thomas makes a similar bag at a lower price point. I have one in yellow that I will put back into rotation this spring. If you are local, you can see the collection in person at Kirby & Company in Darien.

My Vince sneakers were a splurge but worth it. They are so comfortable!

As I'm throwing this post together I remembered seeing this affordable alternative varsity look... it also comes in white. Another steal worth mentioning!

Here are a few of the navy, white and gray items I either have already for Chase or are in my cart. I love Gap Kids!

Hope you're having a great week!

Drugstore Beauty Favorites

I'm not the product junkie I used to be but every now and then I like to try something new that doesn't break the bank. Here is a roundup of my favorite drugstore beauty staples and a few more recent finds!

---

Sonia Kashuk Weekender Makeup Bag $19.99
I have a similar sized bag from the Lilly Pulitzer x Target collab that I always keep ready for a trip or emergency with my shower, skincare and hair products. Each time I return from a trip, I repack it and leave a note listing anything I need to replace or add so I don't forget the next time I travel.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer $6.29
This concealer has been a favorite of mine for years! I keep going back to it.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation $7.69
Not my everyday foundation but when I'm in a pinch this does the trick. I have tried both the matte and glow - prefer this version that has a dewy look and provides full coverage.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes $4.49
I have tried several wipes and these continue to be my favorite because they are effective but gentle. I always initially take my makeup off with these and then follow up with cleanser, serum, moisturizer. etc.

EOS Shaving Cream $4.49
I'm done with shaving cream in a can. I hate not knowing how much is left! Problem solved.

Dove Exfoliating Body Polish $5.99
I was tipped off to this one on Allure's Best of Beauty Awards: The 28 Best Beauty Steals of 2018.

Colgate Optic White $3.97
My current favorite whitening toothpaste.

Arm & Hammer Essentials Fresh Deodorant $3.49
Thanks to a friend of mine for sweating through the test for the best safe deodorant. This aluminum and paraben free stick is a value.

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Repairing Hair Care Collection
I spend a small fortune on shampoo and conditioner and needed something affordable to put into rotation. I color my hair and use too much heat so need something hydrating.

Batiste Blush Floral & Flirty Dry Shampoo $7.99
Another rec for blondes... it goes on very white so I don't think this would be a great choice if you have darker hair. They do make tinted versions for other hair colors.

What are your favorite drugstore products?

Love Your Skin with Modern Dermatology

Modern Dermatology Westport Office

I'm excited to kick off a series about skincare and anti-aging this year in partnership with my dermatologist, Dr. Deanne Mraz Robinson, MD, FAAD of Modern Dermatology. I've been seeing Dr. Robinson for medical and cosmetic skin needs for a few years and throughout both of my pregnancies. She recently opened a practice in Westport, Connecticut with Dr. Rhonda Klein, MD, MPH, FAAD. The co-founders are both Yale-trained, board certified, moms of four (that's right, 1-2-3-4) and active in the surrounding community. If you're local, you'll enjoy reading this article on Westport Moms.

I experienced acne flare-ups with both of my pregnancies so consulted with Dr. Robinson for safe prescriptions. While there are several resources online to find out what ingredients aren't safe (and we’ve listed some below), I recommend seeing a dermatologist to develop the most effective routine and give you peace of mind. After all, your skin is your largest organ!

Modern Dermatology Westport Office

Since Chase was born and I'm no longer nursing, I decided it was time to step up my routine. 2019 flawless skin goals!  I was recently in the office for injections and next up I'll be trying a laser treatment called Vbeam to combat redness. I've always had some redness in my cheeks, which has become more prevalent as I've gotten older.  I'm hoping with this treatment I can lay off the makeup and give my winter skin a glow. I'm also excited to share some of the new clean products by PURE BioDerm I've been using over the past few weeks, formulated by Dr. Robinson & Dr. Klein.

Chances are if you're here reading this you probably have some of the same questions I did about anti-aging treatments…

Q&A with Dr. Deanne Mraz Robinson, MD, FAAD

What are the most popular laser treatments for anti-aging and what do they target?
There have been amazing advancements in technology, efficacy and safety of lasers and today there is a laser for nearly every sign of aging. The VBeam or Pulsed-Dye-Laser (PDL) laser is great to target redness and broken blood vessels. If sun freckles or pigmentation are the issue, a series of photofacials with IPL or Fraxel 1927 nm are effective therapies. Another very popular laser for antiaging is the PICO. PICO targets discoloration, but also helps to build collagen and targets lines, wrinkles, tone and texture. If deeper wrinkles are the issue, a more aggressive resurfacing laser with CO2 can make a marked difference.

What other treatments do you recommend for anti-aging?
Using lasers alongside toxins (Botox/Xeomin/Dysport) and dermal fillers is a terrific trifecta for a preventative and restorative approach to antiaging.
There are other procedures that work by building collagen, which is the building blocks of our skin and something we start to lose after age 30. Procedures such as Ulthera (ultrasound) and TempSure (radiofrequency) heat the skin, causing intentional injury, which stimulates the creation of new collagen.
Lastly, if lasers aren’t your thing, micro needling with Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) is a great treatment for rejuvenation. The treatment creates tiny openings in the skin with a micro needling device followed by applying topical platelet rich plasma, which contains our bodies’ own growth factors, and can help with fine lines, wrinkles, tone and texture. This is also known as the “Vampire Facial,” which we can thank Kim Kardashian for sharing with the world.

What treatments are safe during pregnancy?
Some lasers are safe during pregnancy such as the PDL. It’s always best to check with your OB to make sure they have no objections to the treatment. Also, the use of red and blue light is safe during pregnancy and can be a great tool to help reduce inflammation and combat acne.

What products should you avoid while pregnant or nursing?
The traditional products that we think of using for rejuvenation are a no-go in pregnancy/nursing such as topical retinoids/retinols. Also, there are many prescription products which are not safe, so be sure to check with your friendly board-certified dermatologist. Dr. Klein and I each have had 4 children, so we totally get it from all angles!

Check back for updates on my blog and Instagram for an amazing treatment giveaway with my friend and fellow Fairfield County blogger, Mrs. Nipple!

Lexi's Style File: Winter Staples

These are a few of Lexi's winter favorites. One day I'll get around to a post about where and how I shop for Lexi... but if I haven't said it lately I get the majority from Gap and Old Navy.  I haven't had much luck finding Lexi jeans that fit her/she won't complain about the waist (wait... aren't we all that way, haha) so the jeggings have been a staple. Several people have asked if the Old Navy fleece comes in adult sizes... I wish! Every single time she wears this someone compliments it.

The Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket in green coordinates well with her most worn colors - pink, purple and navy - so we've gotten this for two years in a row. These Converse are great for toddler girls not just because they are velcro but they are easy to clean. I have yet to splurge on the Uggs... will probably wait until next winter. I also love this pair with stars, but every once in awhile I'll be "practical" and get the gender neutral version to hand down to Chase.

I'm a sucker for the sparkly accessories... Santa brought her several hair clips including the stars... a few more coming her way for Valentine's Day along with the heart-shaped sunnies

Scroll through for some of my other favorite accessories at Target for Valentine's Day. Last year I bought Lexi the heart shaped bag.

Guides for the guys coming soon!

Stems + Co Floral Workshop at Serena & Lily

Back in December I attended a floral workshop with Stems + Co at the Serena & Lily Westport design shop. It was a beautiful event co-hosted by atHome Magazine.

I loved how the buckets of flowers were placed on their Riviera chairs. We watched a tutorial and then choose our stems.

It was nice to take a break from the holiday rush and learn some tips and tricks from Rowayton based Stems + Co founder Zoe. Each vase had a tape grid for a foundation... I have yet to try this on my own but will this year!

If you are local and in need of floral services you'll love their work. Gorgeous! Recently friends from my parents group attended a wreath workshop and really enjoyed it. (I'll keep you posted on my Instagram if I learn of any in the near future... lots of inquires after I shared this event on my stories!)

Sorry if you are on a New Year's diet... the spread on the console was too good not to share! Those macarons...

My outfit - Sweater: H&M. Jeans: Madewell. Boots: Stuart Weitzman.

After the workshop I browsed around... I just want to move in. The design shop has many of their pieces on display as well as fun accents you won't find online. I'm always inspired after a trip to make some home updates.
