Weekend/Wedding Update

via Instagram (Follow me msslindsay)
This is what my Friday night looked like... I stamped and sealed my save the dates!

My stationer suggested utilizing WeddingWire to build our website. They have several great templates to choose from and this Vera Wang design complimented my save the date. I have opted to keep my site password protected.

A family member took a few photos of us shortly after we were engaged to use for the site. I'm still trying to figure out where and when we will do our "official" engagement shoot. I wish we were closer to the Vineyard.

Back to the weekend...Saturday we hung out with friends and went to the new Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Stamford. Danielle, Dori and I were bundled up waiting for our table. It was worth the long wait, I loved the side dishes and cornbread.

His & Hers

My friend told me about this "his and hers" Louis Vuitton Keepall luggage she spotted online and I spent forever trying to find the picture. I think know he would trade "his" in for another vacation or golf clubs, but I would love to have "hers" for our honeymoon. A girl can dream!

Something we would both be equally excited about? “His and hers” flapjack stacks with caramel sauce topped with bacon or blueberries. Yum!

New Day

I have been feeling the winter doldrums and my best friend told me yesterday, Blue Monday, was known as the most depressing day of the year. Hopefully yours wasn't so blue, but if it was you weren't alone. She suggested I go shopping... so I did from my couch. I have to wait until September to get a new monogrammed phone case so this bunny will do in the meantime.

A fresh mani and pedi helps put me in a better mood. I've been getting Gelish and think it lasts longer than OPI and Shellac... but it's probably a better application. My first few gel manicures didn't last a full 2 week and I swore it off. I made an impulsive decision to try it again and have been pleased.

I did a related post my first year of blogging called Wintervention. I'm going to take my own advice and get a spray tan for an event this week. I'm also going to get a few dates with old friends on the calendar.

How do you beat the winter blues?

Brooklyn

Jacket: Joie (similar). Blouse & Scarf: F21. Jeans: Paige (similar). Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

I went to Brooklyn Brewery over the weekend.... I attempted to look "Brooklyn Blonde"-esque with a leather jacket. It's one of my favorite staples inspired by the fashion blogs.

This made me laugh because I have a love-hate relationship with Manhattan. I felt this way after every rent check when I lived there.

While I wasn't blogging last week I was watching the first season of Brooklyn-set Girls on HBO. I cringe at least 10 times every episode but am hooked nonetheless.

Makeup Organization

by Beauti Cosmetics

I treated myself to this new toy with my Christmas money. I had seen a similar makeup organizer on the bathroom counter of the Kardashians and have been wanting one for some time. (I have read conflicting information on exactly what brand they have and prices range from $300-$500. Too much.)

I found mine on Amazon and am really happy with it. It was pricey but well worth the splurge...as long as I don't break it. I decided to keep my brushes in one of the drawers instead of the container on top.

I wish I had a better "before" picture of how I attempted to organize my makeup but I was too excited to unpack and get the new one setup. I had makeup in several different bags, drawers, containers and baskets.

I feel like I have all this new makeup now that I can see everything I own. Just like clothes or jewelry, if I don't see it or have easy access to it I won't wear it. Another reason to justify the price tag.

I read that Emily Maynard uses these clear shoe organizers from the Container Store on her counter, an affordable alternative. It looks like she has combined a few sizes.

Throwback... who had a Caboodle back in the 90's? Did you bring it to overnight camp? Ha! I still have this exact one (with my name in huge scripty letters across it) in my closet at my parent's house.

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it.

It was pretty depressing taking down all of my Christmas decorations last weekend... moving on to the next holiday. That means Pinterest research.

Pinterest via

The "Pinspiration" ... pretty self explanatory.
Hurricane
Candle
Candy Hearts
Ribbon
Done!

I thought about using SweeTarts Hearts instead... but I would eat them all in a few days.

Milly and Banana Republic

via Racked

Exciting news friends... Milly and Banana Republic are teaming together for a "Hamptons-Ready" collection this May for men and women. Prices will range from $45 to $175. I'm not surprised to see shades of emerald green, Pantone's color of the year, in the sneak peek sketch.

Milly Jayden Satchel $435

Are you excited about this year's color? I don't have much green in my winter wardrobe and always struggle to find something to wear on St. Patrick's Day.

Blue & White: Wedding Crashers

Scene from Wedding Crashers

I was watching Wedding Crashers for the gazillionth time and noticed that this blue and white ice container matched a jar in my kitchen.

My mom bought the set at Pier 1 several years ago. That's a Peace Lily plant in the corner that I have managed to keep alive for a month. Even though they are supposed to be easy to maintain I find myself Googling "How to care for Peace Lily" frequently.

While I was verifying that this in fact was the same jar (the things that amuse me), I found some more photos of the estate where the movie was filmed.

Some blue and white for you...

It looks like the ottoman next to the couch is monogrammed... love it!

P.S. Lilly Pulitzer (womens, girls & gifts/home) is on Rue La La today at 11 AM EST.

Friday's Fancies: New Year -- New You!

Heidi Klein Rhode Island metallic-trimmed jersey mini dress $220 //Tory Burch Biarritz Reversible Top & Bottom $220 // Ray-Ban Aviator Sunglasses $145 // Longchamp Le Pliage Large Tote $145 // Peter Thomas Roth Instant Minteral Powder SPF 45 // Jack Rogers Georgica Jelly $68

Who doesn't want to get in shape, stay in shape and just be healthy this year? Those goals come to mind as I see the resort collections popping up. A new bikini is great motivation! Especially trying them on in the middle of winter under department store florescent lighting. Yikes.

Have a great weekend!

Highlights

This is the only picture I have from New Years. For once, I put my clutch in the corner and enjoyed the party sans camera and phone for most of the night. I bought this Backstage sequin dress last year and didn't have the chance to wear it. Even if I didn't go out, I would have sat on my couch in it.

My friends threw a last minute party at their apartment in the city and I brought them this Veuve Clicquot sardine style tin. I saw it before I received the invite and thought how cool it would be for a gift. Worked out nicely!
You can't see my makeup in my New Years picture... I tried out a few new techniques from a YouTube beauty binge over the holiday break. I go through phases watching makeup tutorials and my latest conquest is contouring (without looking like a toddler took crayons to my face). I found the above tutorial by Maskcara via Julie Leah's Pinterest.

The problem with tutorials is that they can become expensive. I can't complain when a drugstore product is recommended, especially if you are trying something new. I have been wearing this highlighting gel concealer the past few days and love how it brightens up my look, especially in the morning. I would like to eventually upgrade to the YSL Touch Eclat Radiant Touch, but want to get matched properly before I spend the $40. It's been on my wish list for awhile, and now I will know how to use it.

Sugarboo Designs

Portobello Road, Edgartown
In the summer of 2011 I fell in love with this Sugarboo Designs "Life is Beauty Full" elephant print at my favorite store on Martha's Vineyard, Portobello Road. I was hoping to bring it back with me on another trip later that summer, but it was gone. I found it online.... just not the same as getting it on the island. It was back on the shelf last August and you bet I made it mine. The friendly sales associate remembers me each summer as the "elephant girl".. ha!

"Your Day Will Go" 19x26 Print $300 $199.90

"Hat & Elephant" Pillow $120 $89.90

"You Are My Sunshine" 26x26 Print $360 $199.90

Sugarboo Designs is on Rue La La for 2 days. There are so many cute vintage inspired prints and other unique home accessories.

My elephant lives in the powder room. I picked the gray Organic Woodgrain Towels from West Elm to match the recycled wood frame.

I have been browsing some other Sugarboo Designs prints online at Lavender Fields - they offer free shipping over $50 and upon initial research have the best retail prices.

Have fun browsing!
