When you lose your wallet...

1. Retrace your steps.
2. Retrace your steps AGAIN, this time try to stay calm.
3. Leave your name and number where you were last.
4. Call your bank and report your cards lost, verify the last purchases.
5. Update your Facebook status for sympathy from your friends.
6. Make a list of what you need to replace to avoid surprises down the road (ex. insurance cards).
7. Plan to visit the DMV and pray your photo is better than the last.
8. Hope that someone will return it!
9. Get over it and begin shopping for a new wallet.

Did I miss anything? I confess I called my parents and cried between 3 and 4. Has this ever happened to you? Such a horrible feeling.

Thankfully I don't carry much cash on me ("cash is gross" - one of my BFFs) and I typically keep gift cards at home unless I plan on using them that day. I'm more upset about the actual wallet that was a gift from my parents many years ago. If you made it this far, thanks for listening. I'm hoping someone will do the right thing and contact me. I have returned a purse, IDs, credit cards...karma!

  5. @Cmae - I had just bought a pair of shoes and put the receipt in my wallet because I had a feeling I might want to return them. Threw the wallet into my tote... left the store. It was sleeting outside so I pulled out a baseball cap that was buried in the bottom of the tote and think that's when it must have fallen out. I went into another store closeby and thought "Hmmm should I just bring back those shoes now?!" - looked down in the tote and it was nowhere to be found. All within just a couple of minutes! Looks like I will be keeping the shoes...

  7. Someone once stole my wallet out of my purse at a restaurant. I chased him down in the mall parking lot and held onto him until he gave it back. The police told me I was crazy because he could of had a gun or his 2 friends could have run me down with the car they jumped in but it was my first prada wallet and I was not going to give it up without a fight. BTW I would never do any of this now, I hope.
    Good luck finding it.

  13. I went to New Orleans for my 21st a few years ago and a friend lost her wristlet on our last night. Well, she went through the same things you are right now....and three months later she received it in the mail (it came from Texas!). Untouched! Every dollar was there and nothing was ever used. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this happens to you :)

  14. Ugh, I'm so sorry! Does the PD take "found property"? Probably not since the City is so big, but you might try asking! Hope it turns up!!

  17. Oh no! Well my parents always told me to say a prayer to Saint Anthony (patron saint of lost things) and pledge to give $20 to a charity if I find it. To this day I've never lost my wallet for more than 48 hours, but have definately made a dent in some small charity :-)

  18. I did the SAME thing (was pulling something out of a bag) and lost a pair of BRAND NEW glasses (prescription) And they were never found either. I always tell myself when something bad happens--(my car got hit a few weeks ago).."it's just a thing...it's just a thing..." I know it's a hassle to replace all of your cards, etc. But they can be replaced. Sorry, girl. I know it's a pain.
